Voodoo History Ii

Voodoo History Ii Cover The Jamaican form of voodoo's ritual arcane power seeped out and partially migrated slowly from Jamaica to be transformed in Haiti to a power centered in hurt, not that the Hatian sorcerers are evil but they practice a form of arcane voodoo that is centered in pain which they needed to break the grip of a powerful evil spirit in which the colonialist were infected with, that tradition migrated to New Orleans were I currently live(when you attain the level of magus voodoo practioner you can draw power from bastions of mystical energy and therefore can create more powerful and complex spells) ,were it was molded into a more subtle magical force but still just as vicous to fight evil spirits, the reason for the subtleness has its roots in the high priestess's that practiced and still pactice it to this day,few men were alowed to invoke obeah magic in New Orleans because of the tradition of slavery that evolved ,the Europeans in America learned of the power from their more civilized cousins in Jamaica who had already dealt with the black art in the West Indies and knew its power ,so any known male practitioners in New Orleans were dealt with not by prison like in Jamaica but with death,in fact even women were not allowed to practice obeah magic, only a select few of shall I say priveleged mulattos and quatroons, they were aware of the voodoo spells through family ties and were passed on bits and pieces of the dark magic and because of their great beauty in the eyes of the ruling class were allowed to dally and practice the powerful vooddoo magic mostly unscathed, but even they had to practice their art in secrecy not wanting to risk being punished by their masters. This is partially the reason why New Orleans Voodoo is not as refined and lacks the depth of knowledge of Obeah magic practiced in the West Indies,Obeah is more a kin to Ayur-Veda ,the ancient East Indian tradition of healing .

Karmically Incorrect Use Of The Seven Pins In Voodoo

| Tuesday, August 24, 2010 | |
Karmically Incorrect Use Of The Seven Pins In Voodoo Cover If You Believe you are Above Karmic Law, Knock Yourself Out.

If you are arrogant enough to believe you are above the law of karma, then feel free to use your pins in the following way. Just remember that the law of three and the Law of Attraction in magick states that you reap what you sow three-fold, so don't say I didn't warn you.

To make your Voodoo doll represent a person, place some of that person's hair or a personal item inside the cloth of the doll to capture part of their soul. Use your black pin into the part of the body that you want the person to experience negativity. For example, a pin in the heart can cause heartbreak or heart problems, the stomach a stomach ache, the back a back ache or relationship problems, etc. With each stick you must focus your intention with the utmost clarity. Then place the doll on the person's doorstep or in their mailbox and watch them totally freak out. Or bury it, but you are really asking for trouble here...

Then back up and watch all hell break loose (in YOUR life, that is)!

Please note that I do not advise using your doll in this way. Voodoo is a powerful magickal system and the law of karma will not make an exception for you. Use of your Voodoo doll in any fashion other than with the right hand as I have recommended may result in severe negative consequences that I will take no responsibility for. So don't come bitching and moaning to me about it after the fact, unless you want to make things right, then I might be of assistance, if your desire to do so is due to Right Intention.

How To Make A Yarn Voodoo Doll

| Monday, August 23, 2010 | |
How To Make A Yarn Voodoo Doll Cover Voodoo dolls are fun to make. One of the cutest styles of voodoo dolls is the yarn voodoo doll. With a few simple materials and a little time, you can create yarn voodoo dolls that will make unique gifts..

Instructions

# Step 1

Cut a piece of yarn for a tie. It should be six inches long. Place the yarn along the top edge of your largest piece of cardboard. Wind yarn of the same color around the piece of cardboard vertically. Wind the yarn 200 hundred times to achieve the proper thickness, then slip the wound yarn off the cardboard and use the single piece of yarn to tie off the wound yarn. Make sure to tie the single piece of yarn tight. This will be the body of the doll.

# Step 2

Make a yarn ball one inch in diameter from the same color yarn as you used for the body.

# Step 3

Wind yarn around the nine-inch piece of cardboard about fifty times. Remove the yarn from the cardboard and cut along the bottom bend of the yarn. Tie together one end of the yarn, about 1/2" from the edge. Braid the yarn and tie the other end, again 1/2" from the end of the wound yarn strip. These are the arms.

# Step 4

Place the previously made yarn ball into the yarn body under the tied center, smooth the yarn out around the yarn ball, and twist and tie the yarn to form the head.

# Step 5

Slide the long nine-inch tied arm piece horizontally through the yarn body and center it. Tie the yarn together below each of the arms for support.

# Step 6

Gather the remaining yarn, separate it into two sections, braid and tie each section 1/4" from the ends. This will be the legs of the voodoo doll.

# Step 7

Use the yarn you chose for hair color. Place a four inch piece of yarn across the smallest piece of cardboard and wind the rest of the yarn vertically, fifty times, the same as you did for the body. Slide the yarn from the cardboard and tie it tightly with the four inch string of yarn. Place the hair on top of the head and stitch in place with embroidery floss, keeping the stitch hidden beneath the hair. Run a stitch along the neckline to further secure the hair.

# Step 8

Use small buttons for the eyes, nose and mouth. Stitch or glue them in place.

# Step 9

Finish your voodoo yarn doll with seven colored pins, each of which represents something specific in the voodoo culture. The pin heads should be colored yellow (success), white (positive energy), red (power), purple (spirituality), green (money), blue (love) and black (repelling negative energy). Display your voodoo yarn doll with the pins randomly placed and with pride.

How To Make A Harmless Voodoo Doll

| Friday, August 20, 2010 | |
How To Make A Harmless Voodoo Doll Cover The stereotypical voodoo doll often conjures up images of a wicked witch using an ugly, evil voodoo doll to wreak vengeance and havoc on her helpless victims. The reality is that creating a voodoo doll for revenge is considered a form of Black Magic which is against voodoo moral codes, and voodoo dolls are usually crafted to help, not harm. Voodoo dolls can be created to increase fortune, find love and improve health. To create a harmless voodoo doll, you will need supplies such as sticks, string, Spanish moss, personal effects and a white candle.

Instructions

1. Step 1

Take the two sticks and create a cross shape. This will be the body of the voodoo doll.

2. Step 2

Tie the sticks together in the middle with string.

3. Step 3

Cover the sticks with Spanish moss. Wrap the Spanish moss around the middle of the doll to reinforce the string. Wrap the Spanish moss in a continuous motion around the top of the voodoo doll where the head will be, and then wrap the Spanish moss around the rest of the body where the arms and bottom will be. Reinforce any loose parts with string to keep the Spanish moss from falling off.

4. Step 4

Cut the fabric into strips. The fabric strips should be about 2 inches wide and 2 to 3 feet long.

5. Step 5

Add the fabric over the Spanish moss. Wrap the fabric so that some of the Spanish moss at top of the head, and ends of the arms and legs is showing.

6. Step 6

Glue the fabric to the body. You may also have to use the needle and thread to reinforce loose parts of fabric.

7. Step 7

Create the face. The face can be created with a combination of buttons and beads for the mouth and eyes. Sew the beads or buttons to the fabric at the top of the voodoo doll with the needle and thread.

8. Step 8

Add decorations to personalize your voodoo doll. Add feathers, flowers, yarn or glitter. If the doll is supposed to represent a specific person, add a personal effect of that person to the doll, such as his hair, a scrap of his clothing or fingernail clippings.

9. Step 9

Consecrate the voodoo doll. Consecrating the voodoo doll removes negative energy and prepares the doll to be used in healing rituals. Light a white candle and the incense, then pass the voodoo doll through the incense smoke.

10. Step 10

Baptize the voodoo doll. If the voodoo doll is supposed to represent a specific person, hold a baptizing ceremony for the voodoo doll. Anoint the voodoo doll with water or anointing oil and give it a name. Then welcome the voodoo doll into your home.

Tips & Warnings

* Craft the voodoo doll while the moon is waxing (growing big) to increase the power of luck, love and fortune spells.
* Some voodoo practitioners advise to avoid saying curse words or thinking negative thoughts while creating a voodoo doll, or you can risk imbuing it with bad energy.

How To Make Voodoo Dolls At Home

| | |
How To Make Voodoo Dolls At Home Cover Voodoo dolls are often found in shops in New Orleans and other areas of the world where the art is still practiced. A voodoo doll can make an interesting decorative item and an unusual or funny gift. A basic voodoo doll is easy to make, and the process can be refined to make the doll similar to a particular person. Voodoo dolls can be as plain or elaborate as the designer likes.

Instructions

1.Step 1

Place the sticks in the shape of a cross using a longer stick for the body and a shorter stick for the arms. Tie the sticks together with string. You can substitute wooden dowels or other craft-type wood pieces for the sticks.

2. Step 2

Tightly wrap Spanish moss around the sticks to form the mass of the doll's body. Try to use a single attached piece of moss for the entire doll. If necessary, secure the moss with string when you are done.

3. Step 3

Wrap fabric scraps around the moss, leaving a bit of moss sticking out at the top and bottom of the doll. Either sew or glue the fabric to secure it. For the best effect, use one solid color of scraps for this step. White, black and tan are good colors for the base covering of the doll.

4. Step 4

Sew or glue the beads in place for the eyes. If you want your doll to have a mouth, use another bead, a button or other sewing embellishment.

5. Step 5

Use different colors of fabric to create clothes for your doll. Wrap the fabric around the doll to create skirts, dresses, shirts and other clothing, leaving the solid color scraps for the doll's base body color. Sew or glue the fabric to secure it. Add jewelry, purses and other objects to make your voodoo doll more elaborate.

6. Step 6

Push the straight pins through the doll in different locations, and your doll is ready for display or a gift box.

Tips & Warnings

* If your doll is intended as a gift, then try to find a fabric similar to a favorite outfit of the gift recipient. Use feathers to make an elaborate headdress for your doll. Craft stores are a great source for small items that can embellish a voodoo doll.

How To Learn A Voodoo Spell

| Thursday, August 19, 2010 | |
How To Learn A Voodoo Spell Cover Voodoo is a faith that is a combination of Roman Catholicism and the tribal spiritualism of West Africa. When the slaves (primarily in Haiti) were taught Christianity, it blended with their own spiritualism and became what's known as voodoo. While a complicated faith to an outsider, voodoo can be learned and understood. Additionally, the inherent magic of voodoo can also be performed if a person learns it.

How to Learn Voodoo Magic

1. Step 1

Learn about voodoo as a religion and faith. Voodoo is a religion first and a form of magic second. One cannot practice the magic until they learn about the spirits, called the Loa, who grant this power and aid.

2. Step 2

Find an experienced teacher, if possible. Voodoo is like any other faith; you can read all the books that you want, but in the end you should speak with other practitioners about it to learn from their experience.

3. Step 3

Design a ritual. Voodoo, like any other faith, is symbolic. However, that doesn't mean that voodoo spells are created like a recipe. There isn't a "speak these words, perform this action" sort of formula to voodoo magic. Rituals represent a spell, and they should be unique to each person. For instance, a love spell could call out to a certain Loa for help, and while you speak a poem that you wrote yourself, you could light red candles to represent love and power. You could also keep a photograph of the person you love on the altar as you ask for the Loa's help. Each "spell" should be unique, and crafted to the needs of the caster and the unique situation they need help in.

Tips & Warnings

* Be realistic in your expectations. Voodoo won't be a quick fix to your problems if you aren't willing to solve them from a spiritual and a reality-based perspective.
* Avoid internet sites or mass media books that claim they can teach "voodoo spells" that will make you rich, powerful and attractive. At best these spells are fluff, and at worst they could make you seem like an unbeliever, ruining your chances of getting actual help.

Haiti Zombi Observation Case

| Saturday, August 7, 2010 | |
Haiti Zombi Observation Case Cover The following is an account of a specific case which illustrates the observation I have just made.

Early in the morning of 24 October, 1936, in the village of Ennery located in the foothills of the Puylboreau mountains near Cap-Haitien, the entire population was aroused into a tumultuous and frenzied consternation when a woman appeared in the streets clad in ragged clothes. She was old, feeble, and stupefied. Her skin was pale and wrinkled and looked like the scales of a fish.

From all appearances, she had been suffering from eye disease for a long time. Her eye-lashes had almost fallen out, she could not bear the glare of sunlight and, to protect her eyes, she had covered her face with a dark dirty rag. This added to the curiosity and superstitious awe of the people.

A mass hysteria swept through the entire village. Crowds gathered around to see that strange woman. People began to ask questions, to cast suspicions, and to try to identify her with various people who were known to be dead long ago.

One of the families living near Ennery, known as the Mentors, noticed that she bore a close resemblance to one of their members. From that day onward people began to call the strange woman by the name of Felicia Felix Mentor. The Mentors took her to their family home, fed her, and gave her comfortable quarters.

She remained in the Mentor's home for a few days until the people removed her to a government hospital. She was in the hospital when, a few weeks after, I was sent from the Public Health Department to make an official study of the strange case which by that time was known all over Haiti.

Felicia Felix Mentor, the alleged Zombi under discussion, was not able to give me any information about her name, her age, her birthplace, where she had been previously, where she was going, and how she happened to be in the hospital. All her answers were unintelligible and irrelevant.

Her occasional outbursts of laughter were devoid of emotion, and very frequently she spoke of herself in either the first or the third person without any sense of discrimination. She had lost all sense of time and was quite indifferent to the world of things around her.

Her height was 5 feet 2 inches, and she weighed 90 pounds. She looked like a woman about 60 years old; but after being treated in the asylum for some time under my care, she rejuvenated and looked like a woman of 50.

The evidence which induced the Mentors at first to believe that the strange woman was the member of their family who died long ago became untenable in the light of a scientific study of the case.

At first they had based their belief on the fact that the woman was lame. Before the real Felicia Felix Mentor died, she was lame as a result of a fracture of her left leg.

Her physical appearance and lameness in addition to the deep belief in the country that sometimes the dead come back to life, induced the Mentors to believe that the strange woman was indeed their late sister Felicia.

I made an X-ray examination of both legs at the Central Hospital in Port-au-Prince. There was no evidence of a fracture and the lameness could therefore be attributed to muscular weakness due to undernourishment. This may be said to be the cause since, after she had a normal diet for two months, the lameness disappeared. She also gained weight.

This is evidently a case of schizophrenia and gives us an idea of how cases of similar nature are likely to arouse mass hysteria in a culture where the common people do not usually understand the scientific basis of many natural events which occur in their daily life.

The case under discussion was reported by Miss Zora Neale Hurston in her book Tell My Horse, in which she stated emphatically `I know that there are Zombis in `Haiti. People have been called back. from the dead.' This American writer stated specifically that she came back from Haiti with no doubt in regard to popular belief of the Zombi pseudo-science.

In her book, the author described the Felicia Felix Mentor incident as a typical case of a Zombi. Evidently she got her information from the simple village folk, whose minds were conditioned to believing the real existence of a superhuman phenomenon. Miss Hurston herself, unfortunately, did not go beyond the mass hysteria to verify her information, nor in any way attempt to make a scientific explanation of the case.

Evidences from European and other cultures could be found, where whole communities have been aroused into a mass hysteria as a result of the unexpected appearance of queer persons. Such appearances very often rekindled the dying embers of archaic superstitious beliefs that were deeply rooted in the traditional culture of a people.

Perhaps extension of the province of psychiatry from a study of the individual to a study of the collective behavior of man may yet reveal to us some of the basic principles underlying the social problems of our time. Certainly, social psychiatry stands a good chance of exploding the Zombi-psychology of the untutored Haitian peasant, as well as any similar beliefs entertained in other cultures.

The Book Of Shadows The Unofficial Charmed Companion

| Tuesday, July 27, 2010 | |
The Book Of Shadows The Unofficial Charmed Companion Cover

Book: The Book Of Shadows The Unofficial Charmed Companion by Ngaire Genge

The ultimate guide to the hit program Charmed, this is both a book of spells and a key to the mysteries of the show. The book of shadows celebrates the best of Charmed, from its roots in the ancient tradition of Wicca to insider information on the show's stars. N.E. Genge not only provides fascinating background details for the show's Wiccan elements, but also guides readers in performing their own magic. Fans with a witchy bent will learn about the tools of magic and divination and the casting of spells. Recipes and rituals -- from those that beckon love or bless a new business venture to those that bequeath strength or bestow fortune -- are all included. The book of shadows is a sassy celebration of witches, sisterhood, and magic.

This book has not been prepared, approved, licensed, endorsed, or in any way authorized by any entity that created or produced Charmed. Charmed is a fun show and remarkably unobjectionable to wiccans and other followers of alternative spiritual paths. The secret seems to be that no matter how much nonsense there is in it, it is true to the spirit and never harms. This book does a great job of distinguishing authentic traditions from the TV made-up stuff, and can introduce a novice (who might think "witchcraft" and "magic" look pretty cool, from watching the show, and wants an easy how-to guide) to the true traditions underlying the show - without giving too much away, either. After all, if you want real magic, you have to do it yourself, every step of the way, and you can't get that from a book; but the book is surprisingly good at conveying that concept. At the same time, for those who just want to know more about the show, this isn't an authorized book, but it has enough details from the show in it to satisfy most fans. Good job! If you just watch the show for the heck of it. this will enlighten you to the reality of wicca, which is something i wish i could do more, either way, wiccan or not, there is stuff about charmed all the way through, and you'll learn a lot about the most controversial part of the fastest growing religion in america also, magick. Definetly reccomended.

New Orleans Voodoo Magic

| Friday, May 7, 2010 | |
New Orleans Voodoo Magic Cover New Orleans is stock full of folk tales of Voodoo Practitioners who can transform into animals or cause animals to invade others. Rather than transforming into wolves, the Voodouns are generally reported as becoming cats.

As late as the 1940’s, stories of frogs, snakes, lizards and snails inside the bodies of the cursed flooded New Orleans. Family members’ bearing witness to these creatures expelling from the bodies and then disappearing shrouded numerous cases of unexplained deaths. In Jim Haskin’s book, “Voodoo and Hoodoo”, the author records actual spells that were supposedly used to invoke living creatures in the body. The spells usually involved the blood of the creature or a powder made from the dead creature being introduced into the food of the intended victim. Once ingested, the victim proceeds to grow living creatures in the stomach, veins or under the skin. Needless to say, there were spells for casting out living creatures in the body as well. Herbs were generally used to cleanse the body and drive away any living creatures that may have been inflicted!

One can only assume that much of the legends that have arisen in New Orleans were spawned by fear and superstition. It is human nature to fear what we do not understand. Voodoo could be perhaps, one of the most misunderstood Religions that have ever existed. Its presence in New Orleans has brought with it a veil of mysticism that has shrouded our fair city and confused its onlookers. The magical history and folklore of New Orleans even inspired local best selling author, Anne Rice, to produce a string of novels about a family of witches, The Mayfair’s. No matter what one’s opinion may be of Voodoo and Witchcraft, no one can come to New Orleans and not be curious as to its wonder.

The roots of Voodoo have been traced all the way back to Africa before 1100 AD. In his book, A Brief History of Voodoo: Slavery & the Survival of The African Gods, Mr. Andy Antippas gives an overview of this fascinating history. The Yoruba people of Southwestern and eastern Dahomey and Togo/Nigeria founded a great city called Ife. It is from the religious beliefs of Ife that Voodoo as we know it today has evolved.

The Voodoo religion is based on one main supreme deity and several demi-gods called loas or lwas. The loas are much to Voodoo as the Saints are to Catholicism. Each one serving a specific purpose. It is estimated that by the 1750’s, 30,000 slaves a year were being immigrated into Haiti bringing with them the Voodoo religion. In the language of the Dahomey tribes, the word Voodoo means Gods or Spirits. The Dahomians believed that these spirits had the ability to enter the worshippers. This was believed to be a valuable experience, warding off illness and misfortune.

One of the most supreme and powerful loas is Damballah-Wedo, the serpent god. He is represented in Voodoo rituals by a snake. The dance with the snake symbolizes the unity between our world and the world beyond. The dancer and the snake become one.

The Spiritual Guide The Rich Treasure Of Internal Peace

The Spiritual Guide The Rich Treasure Of Internal Peace Cover

Book: The Spiritual Guide The Rich Treasure Of Internal Peace by Michael De Molinos

This document is a transcription of an English Translation of The Spiritual Guide by Miguel de Molinos The English translation was published in London, in 1688, and is a translation of an Italian edition published in Venice, in 1685. The English translation has the author as “Dr. Michael de Molinos”. The transcription was performed in November and December of 1997, from a microfilmed copy of the 1688 English translation.

The Book that is here presented ye, is a Translation from the Italian Copy, Printed at Venice in 1685. The first Man that got it, with difficulty, out of the Authour’s hands, and then had it Printed at Rome in 1675, with all the solemnity of approbations, was Fryer John of St. Mary, who styles himself Provincial; and he speaks very fine things of it, and he had so heartily read it over, that the impression which it made in his Mind, gave him the exact cue and knack of that sort of Language which the Author uses, when he throws himself headlong into darkness and obscurity: And when this Man had recommended the Book to the sincere Reader, after his way; the next that appears to give a Grace to it, is no less a Man, than the Most Illustrious and most Reverend Lord, the Archbishop of Rhegium, who tells us how many great Offices in the Church he had pass’d through; he says in his Approbation of the Book, that ‘tis a hard matter to make a judgement of it, without some experience of the things contained in it: And that how high soever the secret of it be above all humane Discourse, yet they are not only not contrary to the right dictates of Reason, but altogether conformable to it: Which is as fitting a Preface to some things in the Book, as any man in the World could have made with the Study of Seven Years: First, to say that these sovereign Secrets, which the Book treats of, are above all human Discourse; and then in the very next words, to say they are conformable altogether to the dictates of Reason: as if the dictates of Reason and human Discourse had entered into a Combination never to come to a right Understanding of one another.

He that would be further satisfied of the fitness of this Archbishop’s Character to the Book, will be gratified, by reading patiently some things of the Nineteenth and Twentieth Chapters of the Third Book: But ‘tis enough, that this great Man speaks well of his Countryman Molinos’s Doctrine, that ‘tis according to the judgment of the holy Fathers, and the usual way of Mystical Divines, he says again, that the Author of this Book, does not speak his own Capricios, but follows the footsteps of the Ancients, and builds upon their Principles, and spiritual Foundations, that he reduces ‘em to a right and clear Method, bringing forth (says he) out of his Treasures, things new and old; And for the Stile of the Book, he allows it to be clear, easie, plain, and full in such crabbed hard and lofty Subject; adding withal, that the Man doth not decline Proofs of Scripture, Doctrines of the Fathers, Decrees of Councils, nor the
Principles of Morality, and therefore he judges it to be a useful Piece, and very worth to be Printed: and what can be said more to set any Book off. Next to the Archbishop’s Approbation, in comes that of Fryer Francis-Mary, Minister
General of the whole Franciscan Order, given from his Convent of Ara Coeli, who speaks mighty kindly and favourably of the Book, & recommends it to the Press.

When Are Spells Performed

| Saturday, August 8, 2009 | |
When Are Spells Performed Cover When you think of the word magic other words come to mind such as charms, spells etc. There are also numbers that have significant power in the magical world. In the magical society, when you cast any spell it means that you channel your energy for mystical powers.

In order to do a spell, you need to say words in a certain order or with various intonations. If you succeeded in your attempt, then you will release the Supernatural powers.

Spells are usually done when the time is right. In many different cultures that do practice magic, it is of the outmost importance especially for the African-American and the European-American as many of their spells are time precise for example the full moon. But have no worries, not all the spells are like that. I’ll show you both examples:

In voodoo there is a spell called the Position of the Sun. Voodoo Magic Spells are often casted with the position of the moon and the sun. The creatures they worship are called moon-lore. As time is of the essence, it is imperative that they begin their chant at the exact moment they are required to do.
When you do magic, you will learn to know that the moon plays a key role in many spells and chants. If for example a spell requires you do something when the moon is full don’t do it when there is just a crescent.

Use your calendar. A calendar is not only to put down dates and stuff. You can also look at the dates on a calendar and be reminded when a spell will be more effective for example it might be that a spell works well after the first part of the month is gone or did you know that supposedly if you sleep with certain things under you mattress you are supposed to dream of your soul mate?

It doesn’t matter if you go for the White Magic or the black magic. There is more than one way to get rid of a streak of bad luck. You must never forget the law of three and that not all spells can be done at the same time. Sometimes it may require you to stay up late...

Want an example of a magical spell? Here is the ever popular love spell. You can use this one for attracting the person you have a crush on. The ingredients you need to perform the ritual are quite simple: a pink candle and your favourite perfume. First step is to carve a hearth in you candle. Next, make sure the moon is full and place your candle in the moonlight. Open your bottle of perfume and imagine its sent reaching out to your lover. Thank the goddess Venus for helping you out in your quest. Lastly let the candle burn all the way and when you go to any event you think you might meet new people, wear the perfume and wait for the magic to do its charm.

Mesmerism Spiritualism Witchcraft And Miracle

Mesmerism Spiritualism Witchcraft And Miracle Cover

Book: Mesmerism Spiritualism Witchcraft And Miracle by Allen Putnam

Mesmerism is a bit of medical quackery developed in the 1806 Sibly18th century by the German Physician Franz Anton Mesmer (1734-1815). In 1766, he published his doctoral dissertation on how the planets affect health: De planetarum influxu in corpus humanum (On the Influence of the Planets on the Human Body). The work was not original, but largely plagiarized (Pattie 1994). Nevertheless, it satisfied the faculty at the University of Vienna.

Mesmer also discovered that even though he didn't need magnets to get results, the dramatic effect of waving a magnetized pole over a person, or having his subjects sit in magnetized water or hold magnetized poles, etc., while he moved around in brightly colored robes playing the scientific faith healer, made for better drama and for larger audiences. He was able to evoke from a number of his clients entertaining behaviors ranging from sleeping to dancing to having convulsions. Mesmer did basically what today's hypnotists do in showrooms and at fairs, and what faith healers do in circus tents and churches. Mesmer set up a Magnetic Institute where he had his patients did such things as sit with their feet in a fountain of magnetized water while holding cables attached to magnetized trees. He was later denounced as a fraud by the French medical establishment and by a commission which included Benjamin Franklin.

The Mystery Of Voodoo

| Monday, February 16, 2009 | |
The Mystery Of Voodoo Cover The drumming and chanting goes on hour after hour. A goat and a small pig have their throats cut, and the blood is sprinkled over the worshippers. The animals are then thrown into a pool of brown bubbling mud. Many believers jump into the pond as well.

This is the climax of the voodoo ceremony at the Plaine Du Nord, 300 kilometres north of the Haitian capital Port-Au-Prince. Thousands of voodoo believers come each year as they all say that the saint will help them. This particular ceremony is in honour of Ogou, the spirit of fertility and the earth.

The most important part of voodoo is the actual religious ceremony. After starting out slowly, the voodooist work themselves up to a spiritual and religious frenzy, using such things as dance, music and liquor to help inspire them, but the real question is that Voodoo a religious thing or a satanic thing?? As voodoo is often charged with being fatalistic, Superstitious and involving devil worship.

Voodoo, which is a mixture of Catholicism and ancient African religion. The voodoo faith holds that there is one God, the creator of the universe. Subordinate to this God are the Loas, lesser deities or saints who act as messengers between a voodoo practitioner and God. Voodoos fatalism focuses on how the Loa control the world, wealth, sickness, childbirth, rewards, punishment and many more.

Voodoo believers accept the existence of one God. Below this almighty God spirits (LOA) rule over the worlds affairs in matters of family, love, happiness, justice, wealth, and revenge. The practice of Voodoo involves the blessing of a Voodoo doll to contact the spirits directly, requesting fulfilment in love, finance career matters and many more. It is still believed that the main reason why people turn to practising voodoo or Witchcraft Today is because more and more people are dissatisfied with traditional religious structures and are seeking deeper, and more meaningful Relationships with divinity through alternate methods.

Voodoo, which means ‘Spirit of God’. It’s a system of beliefs originating in Africa. It has over 50 million followers worldwide. Voodoo flourishes in Brazil, Trinidad, Jamaica and Cuba. It is known to be one of the world’s oldest known religions, which have been around in Africa since the beginning of human civilisation. Some people estimate these civilisations and religions to be over 10,000 years old.

Voodoo is a powerful mystical practice that can bring great gifts and rewards to anyone who believes in it, and who is willing to place his destiny in the hands of the spirits, who are waiting eagerly for your call.

The most popular part of Voodoo is the doll, which is used to represent the spirit of a particular person. You can talk to the doll requesting a change in attitude, influencing the person to act in accordance with your wishes. You can request the doll to call upon powerful forces and then you can perform a simple ritual to fulfil a dream and your desires.

People’s perception of Voodoo rites and rituals are that it’s all evil or malicious, but not many people know that there are healing spells, nature spells, love spells and joyous celebration spells. Spirits can also bring harmony and peace, birth and re-birth, luck, happiness and health. For people who believe it Voodoo is powerful, it is also empowering to the person who practices it.

For anyone who is looking for a solution to a difficult problem, for someone who is trying to sort out a conflict, return a lover or become rich LOA is waiting for your call.

Spirituality And Gender

Spirituality And Gender Cover

Book: Spirituality And Gender by John Nash

A major crisis in the world today concerns women and spirituality. Women everywhere are experiencing a rapid expansion in Consciousness that has opened up new avenues to self-expression and fulfillment. From the limited fields of the home, teaching, and nursing, women now enjoy opportunities in virtually every field of endeavor: the professions, politics, the military, business, manufacturing and construction industries, entertainment, sports, and many other areas. Although they have met some resistance, the response from male colleagues to women's entry into these fields has been overwhelmingly positive. For the most part, men are readily sharing in women's consciousness-raising. Government and industry leaders stress the contribution that this previously untapped human resource can make to growth and prosperity. Today's women can do anything men can do, outside the realms of physical sex and religion.

Women have long been welcome in organized religion in service roles. Nuns could teach in schools and nurse the sick, female parishioners could arrange flowers on the altar, women could teach children and other women in Sunday school and could serve as volunteers in the great many jobs needed to keep a church operating. Now women are knocking on the seminary doors and demanding entry to the ministry. Some Christian denominations have admitted women to the ministry on an equal footing to men--in a few cases even to senior ranks such as bishop. Reform Judaism welcomes women to the rabbinate, and women have made some inroads into the priesthood of Hindu and Buddhist temples. However, other Christian denominations and Islam adamantly refuse even to discuss the issue of female ordination. After all, as the fundamentalists are quick to point out, it was through women that sin came into the world. Furthermore, the Savior/Prophet was male, so that's that.

For much longer, women have played a distinct spiritual role, although this role has received scant support from male-oriented society. The goddess culture of ancient times was destroyed by patriarchal invaders, notably the Hellenic Greeks. Priestesses and vestal virgins continued to play a significant role in religious life during the Greek and Roman periods, although large numbers are reported to have been raped or murdered. Others went to war, often fighting to the death or taking their own lives before they could be captured.

In the later Christian era, a few women, like Hildegard of Bingen and Theresa of Avilla were revered as mystics, but many more, including Joan of Arc, were burned at the stake. Historians attribute much of the appeal of Medieval Witchcraft to women's unfulfilled saccerdotal ambitions. Even today, Wicca attracts women who might in other circumstances be attracted to the priesthood available to their male counterparts.

Samurai Voodoo Doll The Truth About Voodoo Dolls Today

| Sunday, March 9, 2008 | |
Samurai Voodoo Doll The Truth About Voodoo Dolls Today Cover The Samurai voodoo doll and in fact voodoo dolls in general, have seen a great revival in recent years, with a growing number of westerners expressing interest in these curios. Yet the world is not preparing itself for a riot of black magic - for these little Samurai voodoo dolls are armed with charm and a cheeky little smile! Voodoo doll charms have become hugely popular with people for a wide number of reasons.

Voodoo itself carries with it much mysticism and intrigue, with many people perceiving it through the lens of Hollywood. Certainly films have depicted dark, mysterious and undoubtedly evil doings relating to voodoo, with voodoo dolls being tortured, stuck with pins and burnt. Yet this image is distinctly unfair, and the reality of voodoo, and its use of dolls, is as distant from black magic as the little voodoo charms carried by people today.

Used as key rings, attached to bags and zippers or simply hidden inside a pocket, the little samurai dolls which people enjoy today are in no way symbols of dark magic or of a culture which entertains dark or evil forces. Indeed, voodoo is very much an aspect of the ancient Caribbean religion which worships Loa, and Loa's sub-deities. It is a religion which harnesses the natural world, and which takes on board the idea that everything is interconnected, With Spirits and natural energy underpinning all that we see, both in the natural world and in the behaviour of people.

It is particularly this idea that people's behaviour can be affected by natural forces or energy which has encouraged the increased interest in lucky charms, samurai dolls and voodoo dolls. However, rather than seeing these little doll charms as being dark, restricting or affecting people's behaviour against their will, it is instead the idea that people who approach you with dark thoughts, ill intentions or bad news will find that their negative energy is either dispelled or rebuffed.

In practice the concept is that one of these brave little voodoo doll charms will defend you from this negative energy, bouncing it back towards the other person, and keeping you safe from harm. Sticking pins in your little doll charm will do little else but risk him losing a little of his stuffing, and you wouldn't want to impair his ability to defend you, would you?

Whether you believe in the idea of natural energy, negative energy or the ability to defend yourself from negative energy is unimportant. Certainly many people do, and we all know people who seem charmed, able to float through life untouched by negative energy, or like ducks, able to let bad news or dark times simple trickle off their back as they drift onwards towards warmer waters. Similarly many of us know people who seem always to be the ones to experience bad news, calamities, failures and problems, constantly stressed, upset or angry, with a fuse so short that it barely has any delay before bursting with a furious reaction!

Why should it be that some people have it so easy, whilst for others life seems to be a constant challenge? Is there something in the idea of being charmed? Is it simply that by believing that things will get worse, that they do, and that by having faith that things will improve, they will? If this is the case, then our plucky little heroes, your little samurai voodoo doll or other voodoo doll charms may work simply by being around, filling you with just enough confidence to make the difference.

Of course, for many people charms have great importance, from special pebbles or shells, to crystals or pendants, jewels, rings or other items which seem imbued with energy or associations which help the owner feel more positive. Voodoo dolls manage to evoke the mystery of an ancient and powerful religion from a part of the world connected deeply to the natural environment. A holiday to Haiti will not only bring you right to the heart of the origins of Voodoo, but is likely to help invest you with renewed vigour, feeling positive and energetic! But of course, that might simply be the sun, the white sand and the local rum!

There are many people who carry such charms simply for their visual appeal, and this is understandable looking at the wide selection of voodoo dolls available today. Delightfully designed, with great detail and a distinct sense of charm which has a great deal to do with their cheeky little expressions.

The samurai voodoo doll may offer you protection against those who may mean you harm, or he may provide you with a renewed sense of confidence and faith in yourself, or he may simply be a rather unusual little character hanging from your bag or tucked in your pocket. But one thing is for certain - voodoo doll charms won't needle you, and who knows - maybe neither will other people whilst you keep him with you!

A Witch Like Me The Spiritual Journeys Of Today Pagan Practitioners Cover

Book: A Witch Like Me The Spiritual Journeys Of Today Pagan Practitioners by Sirona Knight

Right off the top let me say that I hope this book inspires another one or two in the same line, although perhaps not limited to book authors. I love the idea of learning more about some of the background of some of the “big names” in Paganism. Of course, some of the people I would most like to read about are deceased, but perhaps there are close associates who could provide the data for “posthumous interviews.” In another vein, perhaps a book of Fictional biographies could be assembled for the likes of Harry Potter, Sabrina, Samantha (“Bewitched”) Stevens, the “Charmed” sisters, etc.

It is difficult to critique a book like this, other than on technical grounds, since it is composed of individual life stories and opinions. I truly believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, no matter if they match up with mine or not. So, I find myself in the position of not being able to disagree with any of the statements contained within this book.

Perhaps the only legitimate criticism I can level at this book, if it is that, is that of the fourteen authors presented here (Dorothy Morrison, Phyllis Currot, Raymond Buckland, Z. Budapest, Marion Weinstein, Patricia Telesco, Raven Grimassi, Lady Sabrina, Skye Alexander, A.J. Drew, Silver Ravenwolf, Timothy Roderick, and Sirona Knight), there are only a few who are “Old Timers” (i.e., their first published work came out 20 or more years ago). Even that, however, merely reflects the author’s choice to Deal With those individuals who have stood up for their beliefs, and who are still on the cutting edge of the evolving religion of Wicca.

This is a fun book. No, you won’t learn any deep, dark secrets. There are no skeletons in the closet being revealed. And of course, each author presents themselves in the best possible light,. That is human nature and no one can be faulted for that.

It is a book worth reading, because it shows that Wiccans are very human, and that some of us are willing to stand up and take our lumps for our beliefs. Wiccan authors are becoming more visible, and their books more viable. If you want to know more about the works of these authors, they are listed in the appendix. That appendix could form the basis for a decent “wish list” to improve your library.
